I’m Renske, an award-winning medical artist and scientific illustrator. Welcome to my portfolio! In all of my work, my primary goal is simple: I aim to bridge the gap; whether between doctor and layperson, teacher and student, or fellow scientists, you name it. By combining my skills in art and 3D with my extensive background in anatomy as a physiotherapist, I create what I would like to see in the world: science, simplified. I love what I do, and I hope it shows. Together we can make the world a better place! I hope you enjoy my portfolio in the knowledge that everything was 100% human-made. No generative AI was used to create any of this work. All pieces are copyrighted, and none may be reproduced or used without my consent. 2D Illustration Cover pages & artistic interpretations Graphical Abstracts Asset and illustrations for 2D animation pipeline 3D Assets: optimised assets for VR/AR/web3D Optimised assets for 3D printing and manufacturing (CAD) High resolution 3D sculpts and assets 3D animation Flowcharts & diagrams Graphic Design (samples available on request) Need help communicating a certain concept? Scientific Illustration Portfolio Digital illustration of a real scapula, created in Adobe Photoshop. For this illustration, I layered lots of soft, low-opacity brush-strokes to create a watercolour-like effect. SCAPULA FROM LIFE https://linktr.ee/renskehosteScientific Illustration Portfolio 5. Realistic illustration of the stomach with different types of gastric cancer, and D1 and D2 lymph nodes. Created as part of a larger series around surgery types. Commissioned by, and produced in collaboration with Endosymbiont GmbH. TYPES OF GASTRIC CANCER https://linktr.ee/renskehosteThis illustration is the basis of a patient information animation around retinal surgery. I chose a clean and simplified style, in order to inform but not overwhelm. DIGITAL ILLUSTRATION SAGITTAL EYE 6. Scientific Illustration Portfolio https://linktr.ee/renskehostePROJECT ROADMAP FROM START TO FINISH We begin by discussing your ideas, aims, and any specific requirements, without obligation. Together, we define the style, medium, timeline and deliverables. 1. Initial chat & brief Quote & brief agreed and signed off Feedback (first round) Concept approved Final sign-off Feedback (second round) Next, I will create a few initial sketches or mood boards for your feedback. This phase ensures alignment on style, tone, and the overall approach before moving forward. 2. Concept Development Based on your input, I refine the chosen concept, making necessary adjustments to details, color schemes, or composition. 3. Concept Refinement This is where I bring your idea to life with finalized illustrations, 3D assets or animations. You will receive regular updates to ensure we are aligned. 4. You’ll have a final opportunity to review the artwork. Minor tweaks are made, ensuring all feedback is implemented, and the assets are finished and exceed your expectations. 5. I deliver the finished work to you in all necessary formats, ready for use. I will also remain available for any post-project support or follow-up needs. 6. Creation phase Final Review & Revisions Delivery of Final Assets 7.8. Scientific Illustration Portfolio This illustration is part of a currently unpublished graphical abstract around the stages of gastric gancer and peritoneal metastases. The style and colours were chosen to be in line with pre-existing illustrations provided by the journal. SAGITTAL SECTION STAGES OF GASTRIC CANCER https://linktr.ee/renskehosteLabeled illustration of a cross-section of the Lumbar Spine, created as a companion piece to my MSc Medical Art dissertation resource about Lumbar Puncture. For this companion illustration, I chose a clear, schematic colour scheme that matched the colours of the 3D resource.
